Windows 7 has been around for almost 13 years now and it has definitely stood the test of time. If you use a Windows 7 desktop or laptop and Google Chrome web browser then you might have to switch your web browser soon.
The reason is, Google Chrome’s new update is the first version you can’t run on Windows 7.
In addition to Windows 7, the latest Chrome release is also incompatible with Windows 8 / 8.1 and the lesser-used Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2.
That said, it’s worth noting that you can still use older versions of Chrome on computers running an outdated version of Windows.
However, you will no longer receive critical security updates if you continue to use the Google Chrome web browser.
Additionally, last month even Microsoft ended security updates for Windows 7 and Windows 8 / 8.1.
You will be surprised to know that even in 2021, Windows 7 had a user base of well over 100 million.
Consequently, the discontinuation of Google Chrome for Windows 7 might push some of these users to upgrade their hardware or software.
If you’re using Windows 10 or Windows 11 then there’s nothing to worry about because the latest version of Chrome is still compatible with Windows 10 or later.
