Windows 11 Updates Are Failing To Install

Windows Updates have always brought unwanted problems with them and Microsoft has sincerely followed this trend ever since Windows 10 was released in 2015.

Sadly this time around several Windows 11 users aren’t even able to install the latest update on their PCs. While trying to install the KB5022303 Update (a mandatory security update and essential for Windows 11 users) users are greeted by the error message 0x800f0831.

A similar problem is being faced by users trying to install the KB5022360 Update (the latest Windows 11 update, not necessary tho).

A Windows 11 user in a Feedback Hub post stated that,

“My HP laptop has been unable to successfully install the most current update: 2023-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5022303) in which the following message/error code is given: “Failed to install on 1/15/2023 – 0x800f0988”.

Another user stated that,

“Struggling with a windows update: Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5022303). Install error – 0x800f0988. Have run troubleshooting on the updates and tried to reinstall but this does not seem to work. Is there a simple fix? It’s been a problem for a while and it seems others have the same issue.”

How To Fix Windows 11 Update Not Installing?

Luckily the Windows 11 Update Not Installing error is not new.

However, there’s not much you can do to automatically fix it. Microsoft itself is always on the lookout to improve the delivery and installation of important Windows updates.

That said for the time being what you can do is turn off any third-party antivirus that you have installed on your PC.
